Ps and Qs Publishing is releasing two volumes of workplace horror this summer, and I’m thrilled beyond measure to say that my story, “Daydreams and Nightmares,” will appear in volume two: Spirits and Spreadsheets, coming in August.
After twenty-five years working in business, doing every job from answering phones to managing agents to developing and maintaining training curricula used across the globe, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to at least try to get into this one.
This is a story born from kind-hearted managers telling me to take some time off—they knew I needed it—but knowing that no deadlines were going to change, and the rest of my team was going to pick up the slack while I was out.
A story inspired by that one team member who talked louder and nonstop, so by the end of any meeting their opinion was the only one that had been discussed and shaped the path forward.
One one that comes from a burning desire to pinch index finger to thumb in front of your eye, making their head disappear and think, I crush your head.
If you’ve ever worked long hours to bring a project to completion, trapped in a small room with the same folks—most of whom you love like family, except for that one—and knew that despite your director’s platitudes, your future would be determined by how this one turned out (until the next one) this story is for you.
In August, it’s time to side with the bad guy.
